Arch & Angle (2023)
Made in collaboration with the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan
As an artist attending STAMPS School of Art and Design and a researcher in the Aerospace Engineering Department, my work often navigates the intriguing space between art and science. With these sculptures, my aim is to showcase the harmonious relationship between these worlds. It seems to embody the blend of precision, imagination, analysis, and creativity, revealing how they complement and enrich one another.
Interdisciplinary Research & Design
I had the honor of being approached by the College of Engineering in 2022 to embark on a mission that aimed to raise awareness of interdisciplinary research within the University of Michigan. The outcome of this collaboration has manifested in the form of three sculptures, each delving into the realm of the Arch & Angle framework. These sculptures symbolize the convergence of the College's human centered aspect of engineering, embodied by the "Arch," and its technical fundamentals, symbolized by the "Angle."
As an individual who traverses the realms of both interdisciplinary research and artistic expression, this project holds utmost significance for me. The College of Engineering's vision to promote this collaboration has been brought to life through these sculptures, acting as a visual testament to the power of integration and teamwork. They serve as an invitation for scholars and artists alike to embark on collaborative journeys, traversing the boundaries between disciplines and unlocking new realms of discovery.
Through this project, my dual identity as an interdisciplinary researcher and artist has been intertwined. It embodies my unwavering belief that art and science are not disparate entities, but rather interconnected facets of human expression and intellectual pursuit.
